After putting a flash drive into my USB port upside down, I quickly realized that the port was done. No big deal, I thought; I have one more. A few days later, I realized that my Macbook Air couldn't play sound. I did some research, learned about the I/O board and figured that I probably messed up whatever is on there that produces sound when I was sticking random objects in the port trying to straighten it out.
I followed the repair instructions in the "Macbook Air 11" Mid 2013 I/O Board Replacement Guide" and I'm happy to say that everything is now working.
I noticed that some of the parts in the photos were arranged differently in the guide than in my computer. I actually had to removed the battery to get to some other parts that I need to remove in order to successfully complete the repair. The best advice I can give anyone is to take your time and be patient. This was pretty easy and I found the Magnetic Project Mat to be really helpful. Next project....replacing the battery in my 2 year old iPhone 5.
