Background
The iPhone 17e was announced via press release on March 2nd, 2026. The fifth affordable "SE family" smartphone from Apple, the iPhone 17e is the direct successor to 2024's iPhone 16e, and is mostly a simplified version of the iPhone 17, sporting a single 48 MP 2-in-1 camera module (no ultrawide), USB-C charging, an Action button, the 6.1-inch OLED display from the iPhone 14, a notch instead of a Dynamic Island "pill," and a binned-down A19 SoC.
Previously removed from the 16e, the 17e now brings back MagSafe. The base storage is now also doubled, from 128 to 256 GB, and features Ceramic Shield 2. The 17e is 2g heavier than the 16e, but has otherwise identical dimensions.
The iPhone 17e uses the Apple C1X modem that debuted in the iPhone Air, and retains USB 2.0 data speed.
The iPhone 17e has the same starting price as the 16e at $599, and is available in 256 or 512 GB configurations. It has an aluminum construction and comes in either Black, White, or a new matte Soft Pink colorway.
Identification
You can identify the iPhone 17e by the model number printed inside of the USB-C charge port.
You can also find the model number through the phone's UI by going to the Settings app and navigating to General > About. Tap on the number listed in the Model Number section and it should change to a format that looks like the numbers above.
Additionally, Apple offers a quick online tool to help identify your devices: Identify your iPhone model.
The iPhone 17e features a 6.1-inch (diagonal) flat glass screen, thin black bezels, a black notch at the top of the screen, matte back glass, and aluminum side rails.
Volume controls and the Action Button can be found on the left edge, while the power button is situated on the right. A single camera lens protrudes from the back case. This model has no home button.
The iPhone 17e can be differentiated from the iPhone 17 by its display notch and single camera system (relative to the Dynamic Island and dual camera system on the 17).
