Is a Hitachi hard drive a good drive to use in a 30GB video iPod?

The Hitachi drives are good BUT if your iPod has a Toshiba drive, you will need a new hard drive cable (select the Hitachi option). Hitachi drives have a different connector than the Toshiba drives, that necessitate a different cable.

Why not use one from iFixit? This one is actually Toshiba, any place is good though, hitachi should be fine, as long as it's a reputable vendor and is the right type.

yes Hitachi is a reputable hard drive maker (did you know? they purchased IBM hard drive's division almost 10 years ago. and FWIW IBM pioneered the original hard drive mechanism)

these days there's only a handful of hard drive makers anyhow (about 5 of them, Toshiba is one of the others) - I'd say any brand for your iPod is probably fine. as rab777hp said, just buy the correct type from a reputable vendor.
