notebook display is sometimes blinking

Hy, sorry fo my bad english. I have a problem with my macbook. Sometimes during the work, the display is blinking, sometimes it shuts off for some time about 20 sec or more. I've brought it to the apple service in our city and been told that this is a manboard problem and the price to replace it is about 1000$. I just wanna know, if anyone ever met such problem and if there any chance to fix it without mainboard replacement. Thanks.

Options

Hook it up to an external monitor and see if the blinking also occurs on it. If not, then the logic board is probably fine and it is a screen issue.

Take a video of it and put it on youtube. Tap U9600 on your motherboard with your fingernail and see if it causes the blinking.
