terryrbruns, here is what I would do, assuming that you have an original iPod. First off, rice will only work in the acute phase. It will not fix your iPod. Do not turn it on, you could cause further damage by shortcircuiting the device. The best thing to do is to disassemble your iPod use one oof these as your guide for that job. Remove the logic board, display, battery and HDD. Clean your iPod using this guide. Then replace the battery and the LCD with new ones, check the HDD for function with a USB-to-Zif adapter (you most likely will require a new one) Ones you got all this accomplished, reevaluate for further damage. Hope this helps to get you started, good luck.

First, does it power on? If so then what do you see when it is turned on. You should be able to navigate and use the IPod if it turns on.
IF it does not turn on or Power on then try placing the IPod in a bowl of rice. Take dry rice and put it in a bowl, place the IPod on top of the rice, do not bury it (this works for other electronics too that get wet) and leave it there for about one day. This will dry out the IPod or other electronic device.
Then try to power it on again. If it still doesn't power on then it may be done.

Sure it can :-) well sort off. What iPod are we talking about. You list it as the iPod original, not sure what iPod that is.
