A1502 M.2 Adapter to Pull Data

Block Image

Hello all, I have an a1502 serial c02mnt85fh00 in for service.

I need an adapter to first pull the data off. It says it’s similar to m.2 2280 however the plugin is different than that form factor m.2. What can I get to pull the data via USB? I’m sure one of you fine gents will have a solution. TIA

Are you sure that’s it? The pins are much shorter on the smaller side it you look closely.

I believe it need a SATA one then? I’m sorry it just doesn’t look like that one is going to work. It’s described as similar to 2280 but it’s not 2280 maybe it is Sata?

Macs do not use standard NVMe/PCIe SSD form-factors like PC's, the linked adapter will not work for this drive. A close look at the drive pins shows it is keyed differently.

Chosen Solution

What year MacBook Pro A1502 are you working with? This adapter from OWC claims to be plug-and-play for 2012 and early 2013 models. This one claims to work with later models. There are some cheaper adapters on Amazon / eBay but I'd proceed with caution, the factory installed Apple SSDs are finicky and not as intermixable as their PC equivalents.

Let me confirm. I believe it’s 2014 but need to look up.

Yes it is late 2013 256GB model. Could you kindly link what you believe will work?

Apologies - I see you included a link.

by

It looks like the second one is compatible with the late 2013 model, you can see the list of compatible machines at the bottom of the page. Link just in case: https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MAU3...

by

The first link won’t work for 2013? I accidentally bought the first link.

by

The first link is for early 2013 models, the second is for late 2013 models. I'd try to reach out to them and see if they can cancel / modify the order soon.
