New battery won’t charge

Y new replacement battery won’t charge. The fan is now running non stop, the computer has become extremely slow and the sound cannot be turned anymore.

I tried resetting NVRAM and SMC without any success, problem not fixed.

Would someone have any other idea?

Thanks

Sounds like an issue with the motherboard not being able to talk to the BMS (Battery Management System), the small circuit board built into the battery.

Recheck your work, especially the battery connector and flex cable.

Thank you for your insight

I checked the connection several times and cannot see anything wrong with the connector itself, it slides in and out pretty easily, but what you say makes total sense. Could It be that it was damaged the first time I pulled it out?

Or could it be that the BMS be faulty? Unlikely on a new battery thought.

@gerlechats39416 While it's not common, it does happen that you can sometimes get a defective BMS. Do you still have the old battery to try out and verify? If it still works the same as it did, that would be a strong indicator that there's a fault in the replacement battery.

Yes I thought about that too and, bummer, it now has the exact same issue. It means that the problem does not come from the battery but instead from the computer itself, right?

by

@gerlechats39416 Unfortunately, that sounds like the case. What does the battery connector on the motherboard look like? You might want to go ahead and add a picture of that to your question so some of our experienced technicians can take a look and see if they can spot a problem.
