SSD upgrade storage issue/question

I recently cloned the stock 64gb ssd onto a 2tb ssd. I replaced the stock ssd and the device works fine, but it's only showing 476gb of storage. I'm wondering if this is an issue with the ssd itself, or it's partitioned or something along those lines where the correct storage space exists and is just not showing as available.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hey there @oofmadone,

I tagged @flannelist for input on this question. They have some really good insights for Steam Deck issues and even wrote our troubleshooting pages for this device. I'm willing to bet that it is a partitioning issue with the SSD since you should be able to upgrade your SSD to 2TB without issue. I would also maybe check out the Steam Deck SSD Replacement Guide and see if a step was missed during the upgrade process.

Hi friend, thanks for your input! My first thought was that it was a partition issue also. I did not format or otherwise check on the ssd before cloning the stock drive, I think I'll try to go through the process again and see if I get the same results. I'm thinking it's possible the replacement ssd needed to be formatted some way or came partitioned and then just installed the data onto one of those partitions.

@oofmadone I mean if push comes to shove, you could always reformat the 2 TB drive and image the Steam Deck OS to it. Then Just transfer the files from the old drive to the new one.

@oofmadone I think you're onto something here for sure. How did you do the format the first time around? Depending on where you got your drive, I would also give this spiel about verifying the authenticity of an SSD a glance. It's an unfortunately rampant problem.
