Laptop wont get past white apple screen with Spinning circle

I have been trying to start my Macbook and all i get is a white screen with the spinning circle on it. It stays on for about 30 min or so and still doesnt load up the os. I have tried turning it on and holding down the option key to do a HD reset and it shows the name of the HD and lets me click on the arrow under the picture of the HD but still stays on that white apple screen. I also do hear a light clicking sound coming from the HD. Is there anything else i can do without taking it apart?

Start your computer. Put your OS X install disk in your optical drive. Restart the machine. Press c while you are booting so it will boot to the optical drive. Run disk utility out of the Utilities available at the top of the screen. Under First Aide chose to repair the disk. I'd also back up your data, your hard drive might be on the way out.

Also pressing the option button during boot makes your laptop look for bootable devices and gives you a menu to select a drive to boot from out of the ones it found. That is all it does. It does not reset the hard drive.

I agree with Cellers, this is a failing hard drive.
