iPhone 7 Plus Home button issue

Hi,

I am a amateur fixing a iPhone 7 plus for a friend. I accidently plugged in the home button cable backwards and the button got warm and now the phone doesn't seem to recognize it. Did I fry it?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Excess heat is a typical symptom of a short so yes, you most likely damaged their home button. You can get a replacement from a third party but be aware that it's an aftermarket button. TouchID will no longer work and there's a slight delay in response when you press it. Donor buttons from another phone won't work, period.
