MacBook Air - vertical lines

Hi there,

I've been using a used MacBook Air 13" Early 2017 for the past 18 months without any problems.

On a recent trip to Japan the display suddenly started to show vertical lines on the left hand side.

Aside from the vertical lines the display sometimes seems to experience some sort of ghosting, where there is a lot of light background during the boot process that eventually vanishes.

The issue only appears on the display itself and not, when the laptop is hooked up to an external display via Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter.

Does this indicate that the display was damaged? I have a 2014 13" MacBook Air here as well and could swap the displays in order to test this hypothesis.

Appreciate the help.

Cheers,

Ron

Unfortunately, it sounds like the screen is going out on you. This can happen after a drop, a passenger who reclines their seat quickly without checking what's behind them (speaking from experience), and occasionally due to normal wear and tear.
