How to remove a Forgotten Firmware Password

Hi there, I recently received a macbook air from a friend who didn’t want it anymore, there seems to be a firmware password on it that I don’t know, nor does he know it, I do have root and admin access on the macbook. How can I reset the password? All help would be appreciated!

Check out this video. In order to reset the firmware password you would need to replace or reprogram the BIOS chip. This is a somewhat advanced procedure which requires special tools / skills. Good luck!

@zpl is there any other way to do this process or is this the only method, I apologize for the late response.

There are some tools you can use to interface with the board directly to reprogram the EFI chip, but they can be pretty hacky, so use caution! There isn't an easier way to remove a firmware password without the password.

@zpl ok, thanks, are there any that you recommend?
