How do you tell if the screen is cracked or defective?

I have a MacBook Air that has a defective display as in colored lines going up and down and left to right. The right half is somewhat ok, but the left side is more distorted. (white spots) The screen surface (plastic ?) doesn't have a mark on it. If the display is cracked should I be able to see the cracks if I look closely? Apple won't cover a cracked screen under warranty, but should if it's a defective display. The Apple CSR is telling me the display is cracked, but can't tell me how they know that. It's take their word for it.

its pretty clear when a display has a physical crack or physical damage and this laptop of your does not. This is brand new i assume? I had a family memory order a brand new mac and has a similar problem, not quite the same but brought it back the next day and they replaced it no questions or problems........ This is a fairly old question, i would go to a full service apple store and have them check it out. If no physical damage it should be covered ( If i understand the problem and question correctly).

yes Brain is ryt . if there is any physical damage to screen or panel then they wouldn't cover this in warranty . if there is no any damage then they should. send the pictures of the screen to check if there is any damage .

Unfortunately, I don't have the laptop in my possession anymore. Just to clear up a question or two the MB Air was with in it's one year warranty period and it was taken to a full service Apple store, two times for a different opinion. Each time the warranty repair was turned down because it was deemed user caused even though there was no surface damage to the display. Go figure!
