MacBook would not start

i have connected the DC charger & suddenly the screen turned off & the macbook also went dead. i tried to turn the DC on & off a couple of times & all it does is charging the batteries & not starting up the macbook. FYI the DC charger is brand new which i bought 3 weeks ago.
