Is it the motherboard or the battery?

I have an iPhone XR that I bought when they came out. Yesterday I noticed that my plugged-in phone hadn´t been charging and that it was on 1%. So i plugged it in using a different cable and adapter, but it still didn't charge. I tried restarting the phone, but the battery was too low so when I tried to power it on again it just showed the red battery icon. I then tried to clean the port and try again but only got it to show me the apple logo for a brief second before it all went black. The phone is now pitch black without any logo when I try to start it. I went to my nearby apple store to see if they could fix the problem. They told me that it wasn´t my charging port and that it looked to be dead. I was told that a repair would cost me about 500$ and that a new 12 or 13 iPhone would be better. I didn´t believe this and therefore went here to ask instead since I thought that it might be the battery since I hadn´t noticed any real problems with it before. So my question is really if the phone is basically unfixable or if a battery replacement or something else would work.

This might have occurred due to a faulty charging cable or a component might have just failed. When the iPhone XR exhibits this problem you have described we unusually suspect that one of five components have failed (L3301, L3302, L3303, L3304 and U3300) since these components are in close proximity to one another we would replace all of them for this repair.

If it still has the original battery I'd replace it then try again. If no joy try a GENUINE charge port and not aftermarket. How well did you clean the port? If the plastic part of the charge cable touches or almost touches the bottom of the phone then its clean. Of you can see a mm or more of the metal part then it still has dirt in it and needs done again.

I don´t see the metal part and there is only an mm between the plastic and the phone in some places. The Apple engineer also took a very quick look and said that the port on the phone wasn´t damaged. But I am going to try and replace the battery in the following days.

@felixo123 one place I'd never ever take a phone is a apple store. All they want is sales. Avoid like the plague. Keep us updated when you get the battery.

@strongbow I went to a store not far from me that repairs iPhones. He also said that there was something wrong with the motherboard and that someone would look at it closer tomorrow or the next day. Is there a reason for something like this to happen? Could it be something that i downloaded since I do download stuff from the internet on my phone or is this something that just happens over time?

You kept trying charging cables, but have you tried wireless charging?

I did try wireless charging at the apple store for 4-5 minutes or so, but since I don't own a wireless charger I can't try it at home.
