Is it possible to repair the black plastic part over the hinge?

Pretty soon after I got my macbook pro 2018 I managed to crack the black plastic piece that covers the hinge on the inside. Everything works fine but it makes an uncomfortable noise when you open and close the laptop. I've been using it this way for years but I'd like to repair it before I sell it. Does anyone know anything about this piece - what it's called and whether it can be repaired without spending a bunch of money at the Apple Store?

Answer this question I have this problem too

It's called the clutch cover. Finding it may be a problem. I'd try an eBay search or contact the iFixit team and see if they have one.

Interesting thank you. Indeed when I search google for "clutch cover" I see long plastic pieces that resemble what I have in mind for 2011-2015 models. However the part you linked, which is for the 2018 model, doesn't immediately resemble what I'm talking about. Could you please help me out by elaborating - does this actually do the same thing or is it a different function?
