Hello -

A quick and easy answer, I hope. My wife has a Gen 1 watch with a battery that is exhausted; it doesn't make it halfway through the day.

Question: I have an old SE, will the SE battery fit into the Gen 1?

Is this a good question?

Personally, I'm extremely skeptical this will work, but in order to even have a chance, you'll need to specify which size your two watches are.

The Gen 1 watch came in 38mm and 42mm, while the SE came in 40mm and 44mm.

So right off the bat if you have a 44mm SE, you're going to be out of luck as it's never going to fit in a 38 or a 42mm case. On the other hand, if you have a 40mm SE, it might fit in a 42mm Gen 1, at least physically, but not in a 38mm Gen 1. So right off the bat you've only got a 1 out of four chance it will even go into the case.

Now the question of whether the connector is the same and the ribbon cable will reach the right place to actually plug it in is a whole 'nother question.

P.S. Being a just a tinch melodramatic with your title, aren't we?

Jerry - Was the subject line a skosh too much? I enjoy writing subject lines; it got your attention :)

Thank you for answering my question; yes, the SE is the 44mm, and my wife has the 38mm. Bam, the first to answer, and it completely makes sense to me.

Hi John,

Welp, glad I could answer your question, but sorry it doesn't help you fix your watch.

You can get a replacement battery easily enough; Amazon carries them for about $15, but of course you can always buy one on iFixit and help support their repair efforts. The nice thing about the iFixit Fix Kit is that it includes everything you need to do the repair, plus it comes with a new force touch sensor in case yours doesn't survive removal of the screen. I bought the Fix Kit myself just in case, but managed to get the screen off without damaging the sensor. It was nice to have it in the event I did break it, though.
