I cannot get the thing to boot up. The sound comes on and the apple appears and the deal just keeps swirling around it while nothing happens. I bought it on aution site and do not recovery disks. Will someone help mplease!!!!!! Thank you Leslie in Dallas

It seems to me to be a hard drive issue. You will need to find a valid system to boot from. Also I would open the bottom case and check inside for liquid spilled or corrosion evidences on the logic board. Cross your fingers and pray for a HD problem.

I'll add to lemerise's answer that you need to purchase the operating system install disk(s). You have a choice between purchasing the one(s) that came with your system from Apple for $15 (contact Apple Support to get these) or purchasing the retail version st the prevailing cost. On those disk(s) is the AHT (Apple Hardware Tests) one of which is a disk utility and the ability to repair bad sectors, permissions etc... on your hard drive. I would follow his advice about inspecting for liquid damage. If you find any post it in a comment here and someone will instruct you on how to clean up from it.

This happened to me a few years ago. Your hard drive has died, you can bring it to a someone to recove any data if you haven't backed it up but you need a new hard drive

This can also be from a corrupted system and may just need repair.
