just bought a laptop battery from ifixit , is the temp normal?

hi , so i just got this new battery and installed it , everything went fine although after some time i realized one part of the battery glue was not stuck to the case so i had to open up the back panel and press firmly on the battery to get it to stick , anyways , i did a full calibration and everything seems fine

i got 2 question , while charging the laptop i saw that the batter’s temp is at 38.6 celsius (101f) , is that a normal temperature or the battery is damaged ? i don’t want the thing to catch fire , normal temps when not charging is between 26-32 celsius

and the manufacture date for the battery is 2015-03-30 , i bought it in 2022 , will i run into any problems in the future considering its a 7yo battery already?

Sounds like you hadn’t fully cleared SMC settings so your older batteries data is still being held. Lets do this carefully disconnect your battery following the guide to Step 4 MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2014 Battery Replacement. Now with nothing else connected, press and hold the power button for a good 15 secs so the logic board is fully discharged. Now plug-in your MagSafe charger and restart your system so it gets to the desktop give is a few minutes and launch CoconutBattery again give it a bit more time it should now show the batteries correct manufacturing date. Now shut down the system and reconnect the battery. That should resolve things.

As far as temp 101℉ is not anything to worry about. If on the other hand that was 101℃ then we would have an issue!

Your battery is under charge and the lower half the discharge will have a higher temp and then it levels off and as it get near full charge it will be less. The trick is not to let your battery get too low as that ticks off a cycle count and you have a limited amount of cycles within the battery.

@seaneis - Nope! The order of action:

Disconnect battery

Press and hold power button for 15 secs >> with nothing connected <<

Plug in MagSafe only!

Start system to desktop & review CoconutBattery info

shut down, disconnect MagSafe

Reconnect Battery

Restart - Task is complete!
