iPhone 7 no longer boots up after battery calibration

i recently changed the battery in an iPhone 7. The replacement went smoothly (or so i though). The phone booted up and I started the battery calibration process (charge until 100% and then wait two more hours, then drain the battery then charge it back up). Once the battery was drained, I plugged it back to charge it and left it for a couple hours (after it showed the apple logo). Once I came back a little while later, the phone was completely dead (no vibrations, no force restart, nothing). I tried putting back the original battery but I still don’t get anything. Any Ideas ?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is it recognised by PC or Mac?

No, nothing at all.

Since replacing the battery obviously involved opening up the phone, I would try making sure all of your connectors are connected properly. Aside from that, I can’t really give an answer for what’s going on. Maybe ESD damage on the logic board? But usually if it’s ESD the symptoms don’t show up that quickly in my experience.

What made you decide it needed a new battery to begin with?
One of the ways the tristar chip fails is “can charge, but only if the battery is not stone dead” Are you sure you didn’t have a tristar fault to begin with?

If so, send it to your local microsolderer for a new tristar chip.

The phone had poor battery life. It had the original battery from 2017 and had issues keeping a charge (as is normal with heavely used batteries). Since I know the user personaly, I monitored the battery state since the phone was new and it never showed a suddent problem, only normal wear.

@theantho199 @jessabethany is commenting on the Tristar IC on your logic board as you stated it will charge the battery as long as the battery wasn’t fully drained. If the battery is fully drained and it will not charge it will be the Tristar IC. It doesn’t matter if the battery is new or old.

Thanks for the info. Although I am confused. If the Tristar IC is the problem, shouldn't the phone show signs of life like a battery icon when pluged in with a battery (either the drained one or the fully charged old one) ? Currently doesn't show any sign of life at all.
