MacBook Pro 2017 screen flickering, vertical and horizontal bands

My Macbook Pro 2017 with Touch Bar has one vertical line about 5cm wide that changes colours when opening/closing the lid. Otherwise, both vertical and horizontal lines appear all over the screen, at times making the entire screen unusable depending on the angle of the display. Can anyone tell what is causing this and how to repair it?

@Rahul Shrestha - Sorry its time of a new display assembly! There is no magic fix here. See if your warranty is still active (some countries offer two years). If not its time to get a new display and fix it your self falling what I posted below.

Stuart was lucky! He still had a repair warranty as he has the uppercase replaced due to the Butterfly keyboard defect. So it was fixed under it. He was very lucky!

Ouch! Somewhere you either banged or dropped something of weight onto your systems lid which damaged the LCD.

There is nothing you can do to fix this, you’ll need to replace the entire display assembly following this guide MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar Late 2016 Display Assembly Replacement and here’s the needed part MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Late 2016-2017) Display Assembly

No, I didn’t drop it, so it must have been a very minor bump if it is in fact physical damage that has caused it. I really can’t recall having bumped it though. Doesn’t seem very “pro” to me that it is so fragile, also considering how expensive it is. Unfortunately it is out of warranty. Anyway, thanks for the repair guide.

@stuar - Sorry for the bad news, Apple forgot what the word 'Pro' meant when they intro'ed the 2016 models and the ones that followed. Too many bad design issues to list.

In and case, can you score and accept the answer - Thanks!

Yes, also considered that an Apple repair shop already repaired it twice due to the faulty keyboard design issue (https://support.apple.com/en-gb/keyboard...). Now that I think about it, the damage to the screen could as well have been caused during Apple’s repair processes.

@danj are you confident that the linked guide for the 2016 model also works for the 2017 model?

by

@stuar - The part is the same and the process to replace it is the same. I promise!
