Is it possible to upgrade from 512 MB to 1GB of ram?

Would it be possible to upgrade the 4S ram by swapping chips? Is there even a compatible 1GB chip available? Do you think the hardware would then recognize a bigger chip or would it cause problems?

If your asking, then you probably can't and shouldn't do it.

It is a good question, but not possible:-)

Unfortunately, the RAM is integrated into the logic board, so upgrading the RAM would be extremely difficult if not impossible.

Yeah, I know about it being part of the logic board, but I was just wondering if it would be possible if one was super careful with soldering (i.e. using a microscope) if the contact arrangement was the same.

"super careful" ? - are you aware that you have to solder stuff like that with infrared- or hot-air soldering stations????

Just check on here http://www.circuitrework.com/guides/7-0.... and see what you think. with a medium grade station like this http://www.hakkousa.com/detail.asp?CID=5... and lots of practice , it might be possible. Oh yes, where are you going to get the the RAM from? The IC on the logic board for the 4s might not fit the 4 circuit board. So you will also need the datasheets for both of the IC's to make sure that the internal 'layout' is the same. You see, to many economical and logistics head aches to even try for one phone...so go with what Matt and markus are saying.....;-)

Upgrading RAM is not possible on the 4S, even with a rework station and the knowlage to use it. The phone's RAM is embedded in the A5 "System on a Chip" CPU, It is not on it's own individual chip. This makes upgrading RAM inpossible.

My touch screen has a semi flex - broken. If the phone is switched on without connected touch flex and then i punch my phone to reconnect the flex, my phone recognizes it and makes it work .

therefore means that android somehow works with a " plug and play" system

That would mean that if I change the ram chip , it can recognize up to where the chip responsible for administering the ram can handle it

I do not follow you are all. Are you talking about an iPhone? Are you talking about memory that is plug and play? Do you realize how the memory is installed on the logic board?
