Why is my hard drive not recognized?

I installed a crucial MX500 SSD on my 17" iMac Core Duo computer. I created a bootable USB for macOS X Catalina. When I start up the computer holding down the option key, an image that says “Install macOS Catalina” appears and after clicking it, nothing happens. I waited all night and nothing.

Please help.

Thanks in advance.

@ruvelsa - Sadly the Crucial MX500 SSD won't work in your system as the systems SATA port is only SATA I (1.5 Gb/s) You'll need to use a Samsung 860 EVO SSD unlike the Crucial drive which is a fixed SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) the Samsung is auto sense so it will dial down the data rate to what the system can support in this case SATA I (1.5 Gb/s).
