Screen repair/replacement. What should I do?

Hi there,

I recently purchased a mac listed as spares/repairs. The mac when shipped had no charger, ssd and a waterdamged battery. All of which I have now replaced. Unfortunately when I powered it on for the first time, I realised the screen is also gone.

Looking at replacements online cost anywhere between 400 to as much as a 1000. I only paid 300 for the laptop itself, 550 altogether with replacement parts. The glass panal that covers the screen is intact. So my question is there anywhere to find a cheeper part? Or is there anyway to rebuild the screen behind the glass without buying a completely new module? Or should I pack it in now and try to recoup my loss?

Any input/feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Unfortunately liquid damaged devices just aren’t worth repairing unless you’re trying to get data. No matter how thorough you are, there’s always going to be the issue of “when is something else going to fail?”

Thank you for the hasty response. Definitely a pain - at least I can still return all of the parts.

So even if just the board that's connected to the battery and links to the main pcb is the only thing affected in terms of liquid damage, its still not worth it?

@rasko it's hard to give an answer on that without assessing the damage myself but I would say no. Although the board was the only thing to suffer liquid damage directly, everything connects to it so if a certain circuit gets shorted, it could damage other parts, such as the screen.

Makes sense. Definitely a lesson learned. Thank you for your time, ill mark this as resolved.
