iPhone 7 Plus microphone and WiFi greyed out

Hi everyone,

I have got a 7 Plus here, when first powered on or after a reboot, the wifi will be greyed out in the control centre and in settings for approx. 5 minutes before it enables itself; once it stops being greyed out, it won’t be greyed out again until powered off and on again. I have replaced both WiFi antennas in the upper part of the device with no luck. Bluetooth is working normally (I heard Bluetooth and WiFi are common for being faulty at the same time).

Also, the microphones have stopped working; Siri will not work, and when going to record voice memos, the record button stays on the record sign instead of changing to a stop. It will not record voice memos. It will also end any FaceTime call as soon as you try to FaceTime anyone unless connected to external headset (beats, airpods etc) in which case it’ll work fine. And videos have no sound when recording via the camera app.

I have a iPhone 7 Plus with same issue. What Audio IC should be replaced? The big one or one of the 2 small ones?

What you are describing is the signature Audio IC fault on the 7 series. This can easily be repaired by a reputable repairer. If your device didn’t have any audio problems and just greyed out Wi-Fi it would point to the Wi-Fi IC but since these are both happening at once the audio IC repair should fix all the problems you are having.

To fix the Wi-Fi problem you will need to run an extra jumper between the pads D12 and G12 along with the signature Audio jumper C12. Make sure the repairer runs this extra jumper or they might mistake the greyed out Wi-Fi as a faulty Wi-Fi IC.

Hi,

My iPhone 7 has the same symptoms since 3 days. Wifi and Microphone stopped working at once. Does your fixing implies soldering something on the logic board?

The iPhone 7 and 7 plus have been known to be plagued with board issues, the two main ones being Audio IC and Baseband PMU separation. The Audio IC chip is for audio and can result in the microphone and speakers not working but external devices such as bluetooth speakers and headphones do work. In some cases I believe the wifi IC has issues. Baseband will result in no service and a triangle with an exclamation pont “!” inside it.

Sounds to me like yours is having a lot of board level issues which are repairable, but can be quite expensive given these models will be 4 years old this year.

Would this still be the case if the speakers still work as the speakers work fine? And the WiFi works after a few minutes

Are there any signs of liquid damage? I know Audio IC can have some or all symptoms.

No liquid damage at all. I have had to replace the rear housing due to it being slightly bent so it has obviously had a big accident in the past. But hoping this would fix the WiFi as I only replaced the logic board and everything else came with the new rear housing, but WiFi and recording was still the same. It has also had a screen in it so all 4 microphones in that case have been replaced now. The Bluetooth/WiFi antenna which goes on top of the bottom speaker has also been replaced with no luck.

If the old frame had a bend in it, odds are there were components knocked loose from the board. That's what causes Audio IC and baseband PMU issues. Picture a flat board of Legos. Put a bunch of flat ones on there and then bend it. What happens? They pop off
