Call Apple up directly (not an Authorised Service Provider), ask them for the flat rate repair fee (which is $280 US) (196 Euros). Just tell them it won't start up. This won't get you a the i5 logic board but it won't break the bank either.

Mayer what does the flat rate fee cover a new board?

I just send this same machine in a week ago. Apple replaced the logic board, bottom rubber case and the LCD for a flat rate of $280 plus shipping. I had broken off the sound port on the logic board trying to fix the LCD, (thus the logic board), the rubber bottom case has a recall on it but nothing was wrong with mine. I'm a happy camper.

Thank you mayer for the response. I think I will do that with the 2009 Unibody Mac Pro I am having trouble with. Sorry put it the wrong spot. Still learning the system :)

To get past the automated system (trying to charge you $49) just don't say anything that it can understand to get to a live person.

Thank you again!!!!! I have never called Apple so that is good to know!!!!

They probably got that figure from the cost of the logic board, that rate is this part plus something. If you can't get apple to replace it you can buy it from iFixit and there's an installation guided linked in there.
