Sadly this model has soldered RAM and is not expandable.

The four orange outlined chips are the RAM chips.

Here is the 2017 model which has both a socketed CPU and RAM

In any case you might find upgrading your drive to a faster model (SATA) and if your system has a PCIe slot then you could also install a larger Blade SSD (the line of solder pads just to the right of the Ethernet RJ45 connector is where it would be).

So your saying all I have to do to increase my ram in my lame 2015 late iMac 21.5 is to buy a 2017 logic board and install it?

by

@David McAtree - Ah! If it was so easy ;-{

So putting that Mack Truck diesel engine into my Ford Mustang is a simple drop in! Sadly NO

And thats the case here as well.

Why is it not an option to replace the logic board with a 16GB unit? I found one on eBay.

by

@pdrnec - You are very lucky to find a logic board with 16GB! For most that's too expensive given the value of the system.

Please disregard everything that I stated below, but I am keeping it for people to see. I was incorrect, and I did not do my research. I’m just a hobbyist trying to break into the community, and sometimes I’m wrong. I apologise for the misinformation, and I hope to learn more so that things like this do not happen again.

Hello, I looked on Apple's website, and according to it they did not release a 21.5 inch IMac in 2015. To get your model number, click on the apple in the upper right corner, and at the top of that menu, click 'About This Mac'. On the first page, it should say the type and model of your computer. Just edit the question or post it in the comments and I can get an answer for you.

The did make one its not listed as it has soldered RAM and has no means to expand.

Ok. I figured it was soldered, but thanks for the update.

@chanute No they didn't release one 21.5" iMac in 2015, they released four.

iMac "Core i5" 1.6 21.5-Inch (Late 2015)1.6 GHz Core i5 (I5-5250U)

iMac "Core i5" 2.8 21.5-Inch (Late 2015)2.8 GHz Core i5 (I5-5575R)

iMac "Core i5" 3.1 21.5-Inch (4K, Late 2015)3.1 GHz Core i5 (I5-5675R)

iMac "Core i7" 3.3 21.5-Inch (4K, Late 2015)3.3 GHz Core i7 (I7-5775R)

Why are you causing confusion by answering questions you know nothing about? This isn't your first really poor or misleading answer.
