Is the microwaved rice sock a viable alternative to the iopener?

I am a cheap ass and don’t want to pay $14 shipping for a $13 item if I can avoid it. Is filling a sock with rice and then heating it up in the microwave able to properly soften up a galaxy s7’s adhesive?

Cheap? Use a hairdryer, just be cautious not to apply too much heat to it.

So that applies enough and direct enough heat to work? Saw some people claiming it was insufficient to do the job.

Hi,

just adding to @juax answer.

This is from the ifixit Samsung Galaxy S7 Battery Replacement guide

"A hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate may also be used, but be careful not to overheat the phone—the OLED display and internal battery are both susceptible to heat damage"

@supremeidiot Well, there is a variable. How strong is the hairdryer you are using and is it capable of reaching the temperature desired.

You can probably make a DIY nozzle to focus the heat too. Just be careful not to burn yourself.
