Motherboard Replacement / Upgrade

I have been given a 11” MacBook Air early 2015

It needs a new Logic board. Looking inside I see it has the i5 4GB of RAM.

Can I upgrade to a motherboard with the I7 and 8 GB of RAM with no issues?

I have seen varying answers online saying it needs to be the same year. Please advise!

Chosen Solution

Generally, you do need to stay within the systems series MacBookAir7,1 as Apple tends to modify things enough with the connections on the logic board as well as the mountings between the different series.

So in this case the 2.2 GHz Core i7 (I7-5650U) board would be your first option. This is the best board Apple produced for the 11” MacBook Airs before Apple redesigned the system so radically.

You could use a lesser board from Mid 2013 and Early 2014 as well as Apple stayed with the same hardware and connections MacBookAir6,1
