I can't turn it on
i push the start button and nothing happens. before this i got a double image on ervything. what can i do?

Unplug it, press the start button for 10 seconds, plug it back in and give it a try. Next I would replace the PRAM 3,6 volt 1/2 AA battery. Step 12 of this guide shows the battery in the lower left hand corner: iMac G3 Model M4984 RAM Replacement

Turn it into a fishbowl. On a more serious note - could be anything from a faulty power supply to a fried logicboard. Here are some hints, but i doubt that it's worthwhile to put too much effort into such an old (albeit beautiful) machine. You can pick up working ones for 20 bucks or less on ebay or in the classifieds.
