iMac fan running and computer will not reboot or start

iMac Intel 24" EMC 2134

Don' t know if a power surge caused this. Computer was contacted to power surge protector. iMac fan is running fast and computer will not turn on and will not reboot. Screen is black. I have unplugged it and waited 24 hours and symptoms persist. It ran out on AppleCare in April .

My question is could this be a simple fix (ie hard drive) -- not costing much or the CPU ( a much harder and costlier fix). what is the best way to figure this out.

I have tried both options and they don't work. The fan will constantly run and will not stop while holding the on/off switch. It seems I cannot turn the computer off/onThere is no picture. I tried holding down the command, option,p, and r together with no tones. I have not disassembled the iMac yet pending any future claims with insurance.

Some more details on your problem would help. First unplug everything. Hold the power button down for 10 seconds then plug it back up and see if it will start. Next try starting holding down the Command (Apple) key, option key, P & R keys. Wait till it tones three times then release and continue start up. That failing, remove the screen and frame. There are diagnostic lights to the right of the RAM slots. Tell us what they do when you try to start up. Thanks
