How can I prevent back glass from cracking more?

I have a customer that has brought me a S8 Plus, and they are wanting the charging port replaced. When they brought it to me me, the bottom left corner of the back glass is showing minor signs of cracking. I was wondering if it is possible to open the device without cracking it even further, or will the back have to be replaced all together?

I suggest using a suction cup towards the top of the phone, and try to get a plastic card underneath the adhesive for the rear glass.

Using an iOpener or a heating pad, gently move the card along, being very gentle towards the broken corner. So as not to stress any more cracks.

With any luck, the adhesive will hold the glass in place, and there won’t be any further damage.

Hope this helps! Best of luck with the repair.

I would certainly advise the customer that it may crack if worked on.

I already explained that there would be risks involved with the repair.

Matt had some great suggestions. First, I always advise my customer that there is a risk of breaking the glass more when it’s cracked like this. First thing is to heat the back up really good to loosen the adhesive. Then I would suggest starting at the top. Normally I start at the bottom but I want to avoid the crack. Keep the back really hot and take you time. The card was a good idea. Ether way, I wouldn’t have high hope for getting this back glass off in one piece. Of course, in person I could see the crack a lot better.
