Why is my keyboard not working?

Just woke up my laptop and my keyboard is not working at all, Touch Bar and Trackpad both work.

Have tried restarting and now can t even get into the computer as it won t let me past the password screen.

Nothing spilled on the keyboard, nothing touched it, it’s just stopped working!

Do you have a bluetooth keyboard or a USB keyboard and the needed dongle to plug it in? See if you can get your system to respond with one of them.

If you can run the onboard diagnostics by restarting your system press and hold the D key.

Looks like you'll need a new uppercase.

Take it in to Apple and see if they will fix it under the

Keyboard Service Program for MacBook and MacBook Pro

You either need a new uppercase or the logic board has a problem. either way this is an expensive repair $600 - 1200! See if you can get diagnostics to pop an error and post it here for us to see at least we can tell you which.

I would go to an authorized service center or Apple Store to get this fixed.

5 days and tried everything from resetting smc & pram or nvram and nothing worked. drained battery and let computer reset and nothing. today the battery drained, i plugged in the power, computer turned on and miraculously the keyboard now works…..any thoughts on this?

I would still visit an Apple Store or authorized service center. Clearly you have something more going on here. Even if they don't find anything you want a record of the event.
