Hi! Does it beep or chime? The first thing I would check is that the memory and Airport are fully seated, and I'd try powering on with only one memory slot at a time populated, in order to test the slots. Also try resetting the PMU.

Why check the airport?

by

You're right, sorry, on this model with the embedded Airport, it's not necessary to check the Airport. I forgot to verify the model. I mentioned it because on PowerBooks which have the standard removable Airport card, occasionally they will not be fully seated, causing the machine to boot into open firmware mode, or not boot at all. In the last year I've been sold several 12" PowerBooks "broken" that just needed the Airport pushed in tighter.

Just push the Airport card in tighter wont solve the problem of these iBooks G4 12" 1.33Ghz. The problem will reappear sooner or later on these units. Be aware...

Hello lemerise, it's not an iBook g4 ; it is a 17" PowerBook G4...

rdlink , in what concerns the main problem, it remains as it was... I probably have to do everything from scratch, but it's time consuming (and a little scary) and I haven't had the guts to do so yet!... thanks for the help and - if you think it's all right -as soon as I've tried it again I post what happened...and if someone has another idea, please share...

thanks again, margarida
