Strange power/battery reoccurring issue

I'm facing an issue where my old MacBook Air's battery works.... sometimes.

When I unplug the power adapter, then the computer sometimes shuts down immediately, despite that the power adapter has been plugged in for a day. If the shutdown happens, then the computer behaves as if the battery is dead but then all of a sudden, maybe after a week, the battery starts to work like normal again (5 hours of battery, normal use). What could this be?

I can't replicate the issue and when I contacted apple then they do not know what could be wrong.

Not sure if it's worth mentioning but when the MacBook Air recovers from a sudden shutdown, then the time is set to January 1, 2018.

You'll need to check your MagSafe connectors. Review this Apple T/N Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters

I would recommend you also install this app CoconutBattery so you can monitor your battery and its charging. Post a snapshot of the main window so we can also see its condition too! Adding images to an existing question

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the fast reply! Took a screenshot of the battery stats. I looked at the Apple T/N but the only thing i could find, was that the dc cable is missing insulation. I have tried different cables when the problem occurs but it does not help.

Well, I got some good news and some bad!

The good news is your battery needs replacing. The batteries cycle life is only 1000, you’ve hit that and 300+ more times! The bad news is you’ll need to buy it MacBook Air 13" (Late 2010-2017) Battery and here’s the needed steps to put it in MacBook Air 13" Mid 2013 Battery Replacement

Thanks, I changed my battery and it works perfectly now.

I waited some time before accepting the answer as it was a difficult bug to replicate and I wanted to make sure it actually worked.
