Does an external monitor also look like this?

If it does then your GPU VRAM has failed. This would require a new logic board MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2010 Logic Board Replacement

If the external is working your internal displays logic has failed. You’ll need a new display assembly MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2010 Display Replacement

Would require you to open the Mac Book and reconnect the LCD cable to the Logic Board. I agree with Dan's answer.
