Screen shows all images but is pale and hazed

I was getting laundry out of the dryer and a shirt snagged my headphone cord causing my iPod to fall and land flat and screen down. (you asked for detail of what caused the problem)

I picked it up and unlocked it, but my lock image was pale with bad contrast and a white bar across the bottom. (for height comparison, the wite bar covers the bottom of the screem except the top quarter of the volume slider circle/ the bottom quarter of the unlock slider.) It still plays music and I can read the display, as long as I'm not in bright sunlight. I asked a techie i know who runs a computer service and he guessed the lcd was disconected, but when i searched this everyone discribed a black or white solid screen.

I tried adjusting the brightness setting but it only assisted the appearance of the prblem, it did not fix it.

what should I do?
