Replacing my keyboard. Question about keyboard ribbon cable

Hi!

I’m replacing my keyboard due to liquid spill.

My new replacement keyboard has no adhesive/tape on the ribbon cable. I’m wondering if it is necessary to attach it to the backlight? Maybe I can use electrical tape or double-sided tape?

I also wonder if I can attach the old backlight with tape?

Would be really grateful for an answer!

IMHO that tape is used to pull the ribbon cable into the slot, then lock it down. It’s much easier to do that than trying to push it in. After the cable is in, the tape really serves no purpose.

Thank you very much for your reply! That is good to know! I'm sorry if I'm bad at explaining (english is not my native language), I mean the adhesive under the keyboard cable, located near the battery connector. The old keyboard cable had adhesive there & was sticked to the backlight. My new keyboard does not have any adhesive there.

Maybe it helps with a picture. I mean the blue tape to the left in the picture :

@mayer - For sure! I like black vinyl electricians tape as it tends stick just enough and is easier to get off from the ribbon cable after the insertion.

You’ll need to use double sided tape where it was used before, don’t use electrical tape!

You want to emulate what Apple did, don’t try to re-design things here.

Thank you so much for your answer! So the ribbon cable will work as usual even if I attach a piece of double sided tape on the same place as on the previous keyboard cable? I’m a beginner when it comes to ”dissecting” computers and therefore want to be careful so that I do not destroy anything. Have had great help from ifixit guide + youtube videos so far. :)

Does anyone know if I can use 3 mm double sided tape for mobile phones around the edges of the keyboard backlight? It has completely lost its adhesion.
