Dead new SSD less than 2 weeks old Crucial MX500

Hi, After finally getting everything up and running in my Macbook, the SSD failed. Prior to this happening I was getting the beachball coming up when using a browser, any browser. This would happen after about 20 min or so. At the time I had software that should not have been there, CleanMyMac, avast antivirus. I removed these as advised as it may have been the issue. I removed these and all the files that went with them.

All seemed great, I was just watching netflix when first the browser went down. Tried to open it, couldnt be found clicked the dock then it just went black. Restarted, got the question mark and folder. I should have then tried out the old drive but had a replacement sata cable that i had purchased just in case and changed it. tried the SSD again, no go. Put in the old drive and it worked perfectly. I’m using it right now. It’s a Crucial MX500 ITB.

I’m in the middle of doing a power cycle and hoping for the best. It’s not even 2 weeks old!

So, any suggestions of what else I could do to recover this drive?

Thankfully I do have time machine backups.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

What OS X are you using and have you done an update or system upgrade in the last couple of weeks? Apple wants to stop all third party upgrades so they can control it all themselves and monopolize repairs and pricing and have been doing things to attain this goal since 2010. Lately it has gotten much more vicious.

If this is a Crucial SSD that has failed then I highly suggest you contact Crucial about returning your malfunctioning SSD. You really cannot recover files from a dead SSD unless you have a bare motherboard and microsoldeirng skills. It’s just best that you attempt to contact Crucial about your SSD failing and see if they will replace it.

My main concern here is the data on the drive and sending it via post.

@richieblack This may be your only option. However, you could ask your neighborhood microsolderer about this matter too and see what he/she says they could do to save your data. You could also take it into a data recovery facility and ask them how much it would cost to recover your data.

Regarding recovery, I have a backup of the whole drive. My concern is the data on the drive being accessed should the drive be lost in the post. I've had things go missing before. It's really feeling like there aren't many options.

@richieblack Does this drive work in any other computers?

I put the drive into my windows laptop, went into bios and nothing.
