Top RAM Slot is not functioning

Hi, I´ve recently bought 2x8gb Ram from OWC following their instructions to order the correct one. tried to install them but when I boot the mac it keeps restarting by itself. I´ve tried both rams separetly, and both working, I´ve finally found that the top ram slot is the one causing problems. The weird thing is that originally I had 4gb and 2gb on the bottom and top ram slots (6GB in total) any idea? any tips?

Try using a lessor stick in the upper slot, leave the 8 GB in.

I use Micromats Atomic to test RAM:

By lessor stick, I means a 4 GB and 2

GB stick.

Hi @mayer @mayer, thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Could you please rephrase the answer?

Use a lessor stick on the top slot? Sorry not sure what this means.

I can buy atomic software and test the ram, although both ram sticks works on the lower slot…

Many thanks for your help.

What OS X are you running?

Originally, both the official and actual maximum RAM was 8 GB. However, as confirmed by site sponsor OWC, if running OS X 10.7.5 or higher, updated with the latest EFI, and equipped with proper specification memory modules, this model can support up to 16 GB of RAM.

@eduhecam What Mayer means by use a lesser stick is to use a RAM stick with less amount of RAM (like let’s say a 4GB or 2 GB instead)

Thanks @ajcooke01 . I've tried. Worked for 5 mins, 8gb + 4gb at the top (different brands same ram specs) But I've got the spinning wheel, and then completly freeze computer...
