In the offer for the iPhone 3gs Replacement Battery it says that it includes the screwdriver and an "iPod opening tool".

Additiona tool would be Suction Cup. The usual "iPod opening tool" can be used to carefully lift the Flex Cable Connectors from the Logic Board. Also to carefully flip the lever up on Connector #3. It can also be used help pry up the battery which will have a pull tab to help get you started separating it from the strong adhesive that is usually present. To open the iPhone make sure it is OFF, and carefully open it from the Home Button end with a Suction Cup, being careful not to tear the Flex Cables at the other end. See if you can find a Suction Cup. Be especially careful with Flex 3 and the Copper Antenna Ground at bezel near Flex 7.

It's basically a large plastic spudger, however the guide does not list it among the necessary tools.

Also, error 29 has been discussed in detail here, just search and you'll find results, I believe it's either solved by a restore or it's a bum logic board.
