White screen, unable to reset

Hello,

I have an Iphone 3GS which is jail-broken.I had installed some free apps from the Itunes-store and was playing them one by one. While playing a game, the screen turned white. Because I recently changed my front glass, I thought it might be an bad connection of one of the connectors. So I opened the Iphone to check those but didn't really find the problem. But when I was moving the phone a bit, the image turned back. I closed the phone but had the same problem after some minutes. I found the trouble shooting about the white screen of death but it isn't working. I stupidly did an fix of the Iphone via Itunes. So I think I have to re-jailbreak and re-unlock the phone. But I only see an white screen. Via Itunes I only can restore to 4.3.2.

When I try to restore to 3.1.2 I get error 3914. I cant shut the phone down, or on. It only responds to dfu-mode.

Would it be an hardware problem?

Edit:

Thanks to pollytintop ,Brad and Gadget Docs for the explanation.

EDIT:

Just had an other LCD to test. I've looked for differences and noticed that the socked of cable 3 was damaged. By replacing the other LCD, the other socked of the replacement iphone broke 2. Now ordering 2 LCD's, oow boy.

Pollytintop is right, your Host File is blocking the gs.apple.com server so you are blocking Apple which with downgrading iPhone soft ware is required. This is because Apple will not allow the downgrading of a 3GS. To downgrade your 3GS you have to use a program called Tiny Umbrella, download this, run it see which SHSH you have saved. You can only restore a 3GS to a firmware you have SHSH for. Also Tiny Umbrella will block Apple which is necessary. If you want to restore to the current firmware which will update your baseband and make unlocking impossible unless you go to the troubled iPad baseband. Then to update to current you can have Tiny Umbrella edit your Host File back to stock. But you can still restore the current firmware through Tiny Umbrella anyway if you want with Apple blocked. So back to one of your problems, to restore to 3.1.2 you need to have the SHSH for 3.1.2 Tiny Umbrella will tell you if you have the SHSH. A broken 3GS with unlock issues is a very difficult situation.

EDIT:

Yestertday I've spend the whole day searching on google for a fix. I learned about the ways to restore my Iphone using tiny, etc. I've restored to 4.1 with baseband 05.16.02-6.4_M3S2. Is this baseband going to cause me trouble to unlock my Iphone? What is the difference in firmware? What's the best firmware for my phone? the latest? Sryy for the question, I'm kinda noob in these things. Still learning

So why is there no choice: "accept as Answer" action for this Answer? The O.P. commented that the used (accepted) this advice. Why should it then only be voted as a comment?

by

machead i have no idea what you are asking.. what is it that you think is the right option here?vote for that or vote for nothing. the o.p hasn't replied that either is the solution for her problem...as far as i'm concerned this is an answer that has different information to mine and yet agrees with me. it should be an answer and not a comment.

I've restored to 4.1 with baseband 05.16.02-6.4_M3S2. tells anyone what the solution was to the Question. Isn't that what this site is about - finding Answers? Why would that be buried instead of promoted?

It would need to be switched to a question first--then you could vote to accept.

re open the phone and check lcd cable no 1 is on... this is probably the reason for black screen. the other problem could be that if you havent turned the phone off you have blown the lcd. 3gs are a bit dainty with this. make sure when you open the iphone this time that it is off..hold the power button for 5-10seconds and then slide your finger across the top of the screen as if you are sliding to power off. triple check your phone is off by toggling the vibrate on and off (should be no vibrate if phone is off) if fixing the connector solves the black screen issue then you can do your jailbreak/use the phone to see any problems.

the 3914 problem in itunes could be Error 3000-3999: (3002, 3004, 3013, 3014, 3164, 3194, and so on) Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, an entry in your hosts file redirecting requests to gs.apple.com, or due to your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try without using one or with a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues. Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again.

The problem is that I cant see anything Iphone. I'll have tonight a working LCD to see if the LCD is blown like you said. By holding sleep and home button together the Iphone shuts down.. Is that enough for replacing the LCD? Don't want to blow the other LCD too.

Like they said, even if you did hit that restore button and it worked you will lose your unlock. If you want to go to 4.3.2 I'd suggest sn0wbreeze(windows) or pwnagetools(mac) and creating a custom IPSW that preserves baseband then you can go DFU and shift-restore to the 4.3.2 file that you created. This will remove your jailbreak and unlock but you can re-do them but I'd only do this if you are 100% sure its software related which it doesn't seem to be.
