Stuck on white loading screen

I don’t know much about computers so I’ll try to make this understandable.

My uncle gave me this MacBook, said he never used it, and he didn’t have the charger. I ordered a charger and plugged it up. It chimed and then went to a white logo screen with a spinning loading wheel under it. Is now stuck like that. Looked up a million solutions and absolutely nothing is working. Won’t do command r or any of the other commands online. I’m planning to bring it to the Apple store in a few weeks if nothing works. I’d love to reset it to factory settings but no menus will appear. I’m worried I bought the charger for no reason. Any understandable solutions? I don’t really have any computer experience.

Last three of serial number is ATP

Edit: went to Best Buy. He said to try option d. Didn’t work. Thanks Best Buy. Can anyone help?? Do I need to replace a part in the laptop??

You most likely have a bad hard drive or corrupted system folder. I would also replace the hard drive I/R cable on this particular model with the 2012 cable.

Try powering the macbook pro with alt key pressed, that´s to get the boot menu, if you see nothing to boot up, try connecting to a wi-fi to download the system online form the device.
