Screen displays picture then becomes VERY distorted.

While using my Mac Book Pro the screen started flickering as if it was receiving a bad picture transmission. Then, after about 20 min the image on the screen became completely distorted. I noticed that the sound and cursor still worked and as i moved windows around the picture became WORSE. I shut down the laptop by holding the power button and restarted it the next day. At first the picture was fine, however,, after 20 min or so the problem repeated.

Any suggestions?

NEW DISCOVERY! So, after bringing my laptop to the office to test on an external monitor I noticed after 45 min that when I use it here(in my office), picture does not drop out. Weird.. I also failed to mention in earlier posts that my Power adapter has some wire damage and my battery needs to be replaced :/ so it is ALWAYS plugged in when in use. Any thoughts?

If your graphic chip is a Nvidia contact Apple for a free logic board replacement.

Please give us the last three letters of your serial number. (found in the battery compartment), I'm pretty sure what the problem is but I need to know your EXACT machine. Hook it up to an external monitor and see if the picture distorts on both.

You do NOT have the Nvidia GPU, so no free logic board. This does sound like a GPU issue and the external monitor test will show that. If so you can get it reflowed or repaired. Here's one place that will do it: http://www.dttservice.com/macbookprosilv...

I'm unsure also of what your problem is. What did the external monitor test show?

It might be a cooling issue. Check that all the vents are clear of dust, when graphics processors overheat they loose quality, fast, and my result in a distorted image. The only other thing I can think of is to replace the ribbon cable to the screen. Plug an external display in to see if you can still use the computer and check the temps of the processor. Good luck.
