optical super drive rejects all discs after 3-5 attempts at reading the disc. This is a replacement drive. it does the same thing the old drive did.

You might want to try removing the drive, opening it, and checking for anything that might be blocking the laser. I've seen a few different broken superdrives, that reject discs, because they have a screw stuck on the magnet on the laser sled. Here's a guide that will show you how to get the drive out of the computer

This is a replacement drive. it does the same thing the old drive did.
Does the drive show up in disk utility? Also, do you have it's jumper set for "Cable Select"?
How many drive are in the upper slots?
