Upgrading the RAM from 8 to 16 GB

Hi.

I've decided to upgrade my RAM from 8 to 16. I have iMac 21.5, 4k 2017. pro 555.

I saw on Apple's official site, that I can upgrade my system to only 16 GB maximum.

Can I put in two 16 GB modules into this model?

On this site I found that I can buy 16 GB RAM. But, this Mac has 2 slots for RAM. Should I fill both slots (do I need two 8 GB modules?) Or, I can put only one 16 GB module in and it will be enough?

Can you please verify which is your exact model. Is it this one iMac 21.5" 2.3 GHz i5 (Mid-2017) or is it one of these iMac 21.5 3.0 GHz i5 (4K, Mid-2017) iMac 21.5" 3.4 GHz i5 (4K, Mid-2017) or iMac 21.5" 3.6 GHz i7 (4K, Mid-2017)

As you can see in the links the first can support only unto 16 GB of RAM and the other three can support up to 32 GB of RAM!

Chosen Solution

Standard RAM: 8 GB Maximum RAM: 32 GB*

RAM Type: PC4-19200 DDR4* Min. RAM Speed: 2400 MHz

Details: *8 GB of RAM is standard and reported as onboard with an optional upgrade to 16 GB of RAM at the time of purchase for an extra US$200. However, in a pleasant surprise, this memory actually is not onboard and can be replaced or upgraded after the initial purchase of the Mac, it's just unnecessarily complicated. This model can "unofficially" support 32 GB of RAM.

Here's how to install it:

iMac Intel 21.5" Retina 4K Display (2017) RAM Replacement

I decided to give my Mac 16gb RAM. Can I Buy 1x16 Ram, or I should fiil all 2 slots?(2x8)

by

or 16(new)+8(old), mb somebody tell, that it’s bad for Mac, because different memory(

by

I'd replace one of the 4GB sticks with a 16 GB and leave the other 4GB in it.

Is it bad for system? When RAM different

by

No, you lose interleaving but the increase in RAM more than compensates for that small drawback.
