Screen problem on iMac Core 2 Duo - 2114

Apple iMac "Core 2 Duo" 2.0 17-Inch Specs Identifiers: Late 2006 - MA590LL - iMac5,1 - A1208 - 2114

Whole left side of a screen has colored lines all the way across.

Is it a screen or video card?

Any idea how to fix it?

Hook it up to an xternal monitor to try to isolate the problem.

How do you go about isolating or Hooking it up to another monitor? This is all new to me and I apologize.
