crashes and kernal panics

I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro with hd cable replaced from iFixit that is still getting restarts and kernel panics. When I boot from an external drive, it seems to work much better but will still get the restarts, etc. if the laptop is jostled even a small amount.

What else could be going on here? Could the ribbon need another fix?

Thx

To help diagnose the issue, disconnect the hard drive cable from the logic board, boot from your external and see if the problem persists,

Makes sense. Would it be disconnection just the one hard drive ribbon connector?
