Hard drive not found after top case removal

Replacing hard drive with a backup caused rubber bumpers to dislodge. Removed top case per ifixit instructions and now ? folder on startup. When booting from dvd and running Disk Utility hard drive isn't found. Hard drive is good and bootable as external. Any ideas what happened and why hard drive is no longer recognized internally?
