It sounds like you've dislodged one of the temperature sensors. On the newer machines they are a bit tricky. It has a flat side that lays on the drive, with a holder to keep it in place. I had a tough time with the one on the hard drive. Stick the holder on first and using kapton tape secure it in place then insert the sensor. Mine had an added piece of foam on top of that that was taped down. I really don't like these sensors.

Thank you for your help i had a look at the sensor on my optical drie, pulled sponge up of, everything looked well, but i realized that my vertical sync cable from logic board had come out on putting back i noticed some flat copper strips were all crushed up and not straight would this be the problem.

If you could upload a photo of these crushed wires and the cable it would help. Also could you give the last three letters of your serial number to help with machine identification.

There is no teardown of the 27" machine yet. Here's the guides for the 21" which should be pretty much the same. Take a look at them and see if you can identify what's been damaged and let us know. Thanks iMac Intel 21.5"

Looks like this is the part you need to replace 922-9481:

I don't know about taking apart the iMac but getting an SD card out of the iMac I had to do last night.

I used a paper large clip with one end bent in hook and a butter knife to open the felt, A flash light to see the card position. I was able to pull the SD card to the slot and through the felt and out without opening it up at all.

I talked to the Apple Store tech and they would charge up to $300 for parts and labor.

I have sadly done the same thing... and took it out the same way O_O Unless you shove the thing into the DVD drive you should be able to take it out.

Thank god the SD card slots are not right next to the DVD on the macbooks... It would cause havoc.
